Raising Good Kids
Findings just released from a national survey of parents of kids ages 6-18:
Top 5 personal character strengths parents seek to teach their children:
- Honesty
- Responsibility
- Respect
- Kindness
- Hard Work
Parents further reported that they set a high value on helping their children learn and practice personal Character Strengths.
- 96% of parents are committed to teaching their children the importance of personal character strengths.
- 92% of parents believe that “being a good person” is important.
- 85% of parents believe that strong personal character will help their children to succeed in life.
Parents also identified their greatest challenges in teaching their children personal character strengths:
- Personal character strengths become harder to teach and reinforce as their children grow older.
- Parents want more resources to help them set clear expectations about character strengths for their children.
- Almost 1/3 of all parents don’t know or use the “Golden Rule” in teaching their children how to treat others. This is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Traditional Karate, classic Taekwondo, and a variety of other martial arts seek to identify and teach essential personal strengths of character.
This type of martial arts school is a powerful resource for parents – helping you teach your children personal character strengths.
