About Our School

In May of 2001 we opened Broadway Family Karate in the Fountain City area of Knoxville.

Our Senior Instructor, Tom Booker, has been teaching martial arts for over 30 years.  Broadway Family Karate has twice been voted the Top Martial Arts School in Knoxville by independent newspaper polls.

Our school is affiliated with the American Karate and Taekwondo Organization, the Satori-ryu Budo, and the American Independent Karate Instructors Association.

From our opening day we’ve been committed to providing top-quality martial arts instruction martial arts instruction for families – children, teens & adults.

Our focus is on the personal development of our students – of both body and mind – through martial arts. The foundation of our teaching is the core principles of classic Korean Karate:  Courtesy, Humility, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.

To this end, we employ a mix of traditional, time-proven martial arts practice and modern assertiveness and self-defense skills:

  • Classic martial arts disciplines, both empty-hand and employing traditional weapons such as the Bo and the Katana.
  • Modern personal defense skills in both standing and ground positions.
  • Personal assertiveness and conflict resolution skills.  These allow us to deal constructively with difficult people and situations without getting into quarrels or fights.
  • Qualities of character such as respect and commitment, to name just two. These form our bedrock personal strengths of heart, mind & will.

Our school location is convenient to Fountain City, Halls Crossroads, Gibbs, Corryton, North Knoxville, and other communities in the north and east Knox County area.
