Dedication, week 2

During our lessons this week, we will talk about the importance of Dedication to our success in achieving our goals.  Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“Most of us serve our ideals by fits and starts.  The person who makes a success of living is the one who sees his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly.  That is dedication.” — Cecile B. Demille (Movie Director and Producer)

Success is determined by our dedication.

How can we succeed in achieving the goals we set for ourselves?  Our dedication is very important.  For example, when we set the goal of earning our Black Belt, we must be dedicated to this.  As DeMille says, we must see this goal steadily and aim for it unswervingly.  We dedicate our time to learning, practicing and honing our martial arts skills.  We come to our lessons regularly to work with our instructors and our fellow students.  We also set time aside outside of our lessons to practice with our skills on our own.  We won’t get there by fits and starts — coming to our lessons and making our best effort only every once in a while.

Discussion Questions:

  1.  What is a goal you would really like to accomplish — something you would like to do or to be?
  2.   How will you dedicate yourself to making this happen?
  3.   Do you think someone can earn their Black Belt without dedication?
