Fall Break Closing October 12 & 13.

Just a reminder we will be closed Monday and Tuesday, October 12 & 13, in observance of the Knox County Schools Fall Break.  No lessons will meet on these days.

Our make-up lessons, Leadership Team lesson, and Black Belt Honors lesson will meet as scheduled today, Sunday, October 11.

Limited Lesson Schedule Begins September 28

Just a reminder that our Limited Lesson Schedule will begin Monday, September 28, and will continue through Saturday, October 31.  We will resume our full lesson schedule at the beginning of November.


Labor Day Holiday Closing

Just a reminder that the Labor Day Holiday is coming up this weekend.  We will be closed Saturday through Monday, September 5-7, in observance of the Holiday.  No lessons will meet on these days.  Lessons will resume on our regular schedule Tuesday, September 8.

Buddy Day & Movie Night Friday, August 21

Just a reminder that we will be having a Buddy Day and Movie Night today, Friday, August 21.  This will be part of our Fun Week schedule this week.

Buddy Day — Share your martial arts training with a friend.  Training games and basic instruction.  Please bring a buddy to class with you.

4:00-4:45pm — ages 6-8

5:00-5:30pm — ages 4 & 5

5:30-6:15pm — ages 9-12

Movie Night — 7:00pm.  Our movie will be Raiders of the Lost Ark, and is rated PG.  You are welcome to invite family and friends to come with you for the movie.


Fun Week August 17-23

Just a reminder that we will be on our special Fun Week schedule this week, August 17-23.  Our schedule will be as follows:

Monday through Thursday, August 17-20:  No classes.  Introductory lessons, private lessons, and student and family conferences by appointment.

Friday, August 21:  Buddy Day and Movie Night.

Saturday, August 22:  Autumn Term preparation meetings — we’ll preview curriculum and upcoming events for the Autumn Term 2015.  We’ll post the schedule here on our website later this week.


Graduation Saturday, August 15

Our Graduation Ceremony of the Summer Term 2015 is coming up this Saturday, August 15.

The Graduation Ceremony is for all students who have earned advancement to their next rank during the Promotion Exams this week.  Please wear your uniform for this, and Honor Students should bring their sparring gear and padded weapons.

At Graduation, you will perform a brief demonstration of some of the things you learned to earn your new rank, and then you will be formally presented with your new belt and rank certificate.  Please invite your family and friends to come see you at Graduation — there will be plenty of seating, and plenty of parking space as well.

Graduation will begin at 10am for our Tigers students (ages 4 & 5), and for our Junior students (ages 6-8), and 12:00 Noon for our Pre-Teen, Teen & Adult students (ages 9+).

Graduation will take place at the First Lutheran School, 1207 North Broadway, Knoxville, TN  37917.

Summer Term 2015 Promotion Exams

Just a reminder that Promotion Exams for the Summer Term are coming up this week, August 10-14 (Monday through Friday).  Promotion Exams are the tests where our students demonstrate the martial arts skills they have learned during this term, and will earn their advancement to their next belt rank.

The Promotion Exams will take place during normal lesson times throughout this week.  Fundamentals and Honors students should plan on attending one “A” day lesson, and one “B” day lesson to complete your Promotion Exam.  Tigers students should plan to attend one lesson to complete your exam.  Friday will be our day to make up one of these days, if you have had to miss one during the week.  There will be no lessons on Saturday, August 15 (Graduation Day).

Following the Promotion Exams, we will have our school Graduation on Saturday, August 15.  At Graduation, our students will demonstrate some of the skills they have learned to earn their new rank, and then they will be awarded their new belts and certificates of rank.  Please invite family and friends to come see you at Graduation.  Our Graduation will take place at First Lutheran School, 1207 North Broadway, just past Rose Mortuary.


Make Up Camp Sunday, August 2

Just a reminder that we will have a special Make Up Camp for all Fundamentals and  Honors students this Sunday, August 2.

This camp is to help our Fundamentals and Honors students who may have gotten a little bit behind on their lessons over the Summer Term to get caught back up.  As part of this camp, we will also be doing make up tests for achievement stripes for students who may be eligible.  Participation counts for 2 Class Credits.

Sessions will meet on the following schedule:

1:00pm — Fundamentals students

1:45pm — Intermediate Honors students (Sr. Yellow-Blue)

2:30pm — Advanced Honors students (Sr. Blue-Sr. Red)

3:15pm — Black Belt Honors students (Promotion Exam preparation)

Please register at the school if you plan to participate in the Summer Term Make Up Camp.


Game Day & Charity Food Drive Thursday, July 16.

We will be having a special Game Day and Charity Food Drive this coming Thursday, July 16, beginning at 6:00pm.  This event is being organized by Mr. Justin Gurkin as his Black Belt Community Service Project.

All of our students are welcome to participate, and to bring a friend with you.  We will be doing training games like Monkey Tail, Cat & Mouse, and Steal the Bacon.

Please bring at least one non-perishable food item (please check to make sure it is still within its expiration date) for admission.  Please register at the school if you plan to attend.

Regular lessons will not meet on this day.  Participation will count for 1 Class Credit.

School Closed for Independence Day, July 4.

Just a reminder that our school will be closed in observance of the Independence Day Holiday this Saturday, July 4.  No lessons will meet on this day.  We will be open on our normal schedule this Friday, July 3.
