We will continue to discuss The Art of Learning during our lessons this week. We’ll be talking together about the importance of fun in The Art of Learning. Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:
“Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning.” Diane Ackerman (author, poet, and naturalist)
When you want to learn something, do you find it easy or very hard? Is it hard for you to learn a new karate technique, and get it to work really well? How about the latest game that you wanted to try for so long, is that hard? It certainly can be — especially if you are trying to get to the next level. Why would it be easier to learn and master a new game, as opposed to learning new vocabulary words in school? Because the game is fun. Make learning something new fun, like a game. This lightens the load, and makes learning a new skill easier. It helps you to focus on what you are trying to accomplish if you enjoy what you are doing. So, the next time you have to learn something new, think of a way to make it fun.
1) What kinds of things do you like to do for fun?
2) What is the most fun thing you do in karate class?
3) What kinds of things do you think you can do to make learning your pattern fun?
