During our in-class discussion lesson this week, we will talk about the importance of using our communications skills in Teamwork. Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:
“Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success.” — Author Unknown
The benefits of working as part of a team are that we are learning to cooperate with and trust others, make decisions, take risks, and develop our leadership qualities. We use teamwork in our karate lessons, at school, and in our workplaces. Teamwork also helps us to develop our communications skills. This involves listening to the other members of our team, as well as talking to them. When we are doing a one step with a partner, we communicate with them in several different ways — not just by talking.
- When we are doing one steps together, and you nod your head to your partner so that they step back into the attack position, are you communicating with them?
- When your partner steps back, low blocks, and kiaps, are they communicating with you?
- When you are working with your partner on a one step as a team, do you have to explain everything to them as you go along?
