Teamwork, week 1

During our lessons this week, we will be talking about the basic meaning of Teamwork.  Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“Individual commitment to a group effort — this is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” — Vince Lombardi (NFL Head Coach)

Teamwork is when a group of people work together to achieve a common goal.  When we work together effectively as part of a team, we are combining our individual strengths to achieve our overall goal.  To work together as part of a team, we have to create a positive atmosphere in which we support each other in our efforts.  When we are working together on one steps or free sparring, we are working with our partner as a team.  Working with our partner as a team helps both of us to strengthen and improve our karate skills.

Discussion Questions:

  1.  How does working with a partner on a one step help you to improve?
  2.  How does working with a partner in free sparring help you to improve?
  3.  What is another situation outside of karate lessons where you are involved in teamwork?

Please share your answers to these questions, and your thoughts about Teamwork, with our school community by using the form below.
