Setting Goals, week 4

During our lessons this week, we will talk about forming a plan of action when Setting Goals in our martial arts training.  Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“A goal without a plan of action is just a wish.” — Carlos “Chuck” Norris

Create a new Year’s resolution along with short term goals to help keep you on course.

One of the best ways to keep a resolution we have made, and to turn it into an actionable goal that we really achieve, is to make a plan to get there.  If our resolution is to earn our Black Belt in karate, we can set up measurable, smaller milestones for ourselves along the way.  Learning the skills to earn our achievement stripes, and then using these to earn advancement to our next belt, give us these milestones.  they let us know that we are on track, and are making steady progress toward achieving our goal of earning our Black Belt.  Our plan of action also includes our commitment to come to lessons regularly each week, so that we will be able to achieve these goals.  Having a strong plan of action will also help us to achieve other big goals we set for ourselves.

Discussion Questions:

  1.  What achievement stripe are we testing for this week?
  2.  Does this take you one step closer to earning your Black Belt?
  3.  What is another big goal you have for yourself that you can make a plan of action for?
