Setting Goals, week 1

During our in-class discussion lesson this week, we will talk about setting smaller goals as steps to achieving bigger goals when we are Setting Goals in our martial arts training.  Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”  — Carl Bard

Setting Goals helps us mold our future.

We set goals for ourselves as a regular part of our martial arts training.  Earning promotion to your next belt rank is one example — but this is not the only goal we can set for ourselves in karate.  We can break our bigger goals down into smaller, manageable steps.  With each small step we make, we get closer to achieving our larger goal.  When we test for one of our achievement stripes, we”re taking a step toward our bigger goal of earning advancement to our next belt rank.  Every few weeks, we have a way of showing ourselves with our new stripe that we have moved one step closer to our larger goal of earning our next belt.

Discussion Questions:

  1.  Which achievement stripe are we testing for this week?
  2.  What new things do you have to demonstrate (show) to earn your achievement stripe?
  3.  What is your next big goal in karate?
