Optimism, week 3

We will be continuing our discussion of Optimism during our lessons this week.  We will be talking about how a positive, optimistic attitude helps keep us mentally strong, and to achieve the goals we set for ourselves.  Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“Pessimism leads to weakness, optimism to power.”  William James (philosopher, psychologist, and physician)

Our attitude of either optimism or pessimism has a lot to do with our ability to accomplish our goals — to do the things we have set ourselves to do.  If we’re feeling negative and down — pessimistic — we don’t feel very strong or confident, and it is harder to get things done.  As a martial artist, it is important for us to be both mentally and physically strong.  Being a positive thinker — being optimistic — and finding solutions instead of problems helps keep us mentally strong.

Discussion Questions:

1)  When you are sick, and you don’t feel well, do you feel strong or weak?

2)  Is it easier for you to do things when you feel happy?

3)  Do you like solving problems?

Please share your answers to these questions, and your thoughts about Optimism, with our school community by using the form below.
