A
Korean martial art, Taekwondo means the art of the hand and foot.
What sets Taekwondo apart from other styles of karate is the extensive
use we make of our feet a wide variety of kicks that are athletic,
powerful, and beautiful.
Frankly, the small differences in technique between different styles
of karate matter far less than the atmosphere of your school. Here,
we study Taekwondo in a positive, supportive, cooperative manner with
an accessible, challenging curriculum.
Beginning students white belt through senior yellow belt
focus on the basic strikes, kicks and blocks as well as patterns, formal
routines that are like the floor exercise portion of gymnastics.
Students begin free-sparring at green belt, after about six months
of training, and start board-breaking at purple belt. Both sparring
and breaking are taught with a strong emphasis on safety as well as
excellent technique and sportsmanship.
