Dec. 3, 2005 The AAU Taekwondo competition season got under way with help from Broadway Family Karate's own Taylor Martin. Taylor (shown here with her mom, Anna) took the silver medal for sparring in her age group.
Dec. 2, 2005 Broadway Family Karate sword students continued to shine in the latest Combat Sword tournament sponsored by the Southeastern Combat Sword Association. Here, Jacob Owens (at right) battles one of the many opponents he faced on his path to twin gold medals in long sword and short sword. Other top medalists included Thomas Cinnamon and Reed Moncier, both of whom brought home silver medals in long sword.
Nov. 25, 2005 — Congratulations to Broadway Family Karate's two newest Probationary Black Belts. At left is Brian Hardin, 7, a first-grader at First Lutheran School and the son of David and Kelly Hardin. His sister, 9-year-old Emily, is currently preparing for her 2nd Dan rank test . At right is Timothy Blackwell, 10, a fifth-grader at Beaumont Magnet Honors Academy and the son of Stephen and Aleka Blackwell.
Oct. 22, 2005 Broadway Family Karate hosted a groundbreaking Combat Sword tournament that included the region's first-ever Tameshigiri competiiton, wherein adult sword students match their cutting skills with razor-sharp Samurai swords.

Oct. 15, 2005 — A local man is $1,000 closer to his dream of independence thanks to the generosity and hard work of Broadway Family Karate students. Students collected pledges for a 200-kick "Kick-a-Thon" benefiting Richie Waldrop, who has been confined to a wheelchair since a swimming-pool accident in 2001. The donations will help Waldrop purchase a specially equipped van that he will be able to drive from his wheelchair. Here, Daniel Bueckman and other students work their way through the 200 kicks.
Sept. 9, 2005 Combat Sword students entered a new phase of their training, beginning the study of the long sword. Eight students successfully tested on their basic skills with the short sword on Sept. 3; the group will take their first long sword test near the end of the year.
