Aug. 11, 2005 Knox County's school year started off strong, and Broadway Family Karate students helped. More than a dozen top students performed a half-hour demonstration at the First Day Festival, hosted by County Mayor Mike Ragsdale as a celebration of the first day of school. Students demonstrated forms, taekwondo sparring, Combat Sword sparring, basic takedowns and board breaking for a capacity crowd at the Knoxville Expo Center.

These students, all of whom have been training for at least two years, excelled in a comprehensive test of their skills in patterns, free-sparring, board-breaking and basic self defense.

May 7, 2005 Seven students from Broadway Family Karate qualified for the Amateur Athletics Union (AAU) Taekwondo Nationals at a regional qualifying tournament in Nashville. Congratulations to Chris Smith, Katie Carter, Jody Davis, Zachary and Lauren Hutton, and Connor and Ty Minton. This year's Taekwondo Nationals will be held in Greensboro, N.C., July 4-9.
April 9, 2005 For the second year in a row, Knoxville's only Italian street fair had a taste of the Far East thanks to a demonstration by Broadway Family Karate students. A dozen students from Senior Yellow Belt to 2nd Dan Black Belt kept the crowd on their toes as they showed off their patterns, sparring, board-breaking and self-defense skills.
