Generosity, week 3

During our lessons this week, we will talk together about volunteering as a way to show Generosity to others.  Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” — Mohandas Gandhi

Volunteering:  freely offering to help.

Last week, we talked together about a few ways in which we can give our time to help others.  This is sometimes called “volunteering”.  When we volunteer our time to help others, we get experience in dealing with different situations, and with people of very different backgrounds from ours.  When we volunteer, we also help to develop our sense of community and our feeling of belonging.  When we show generosity through volunteering our time and effort, we have a positive impact both on the people we are helping, and on ourselves as well.

Discussion Questions:

  1.  What are some ways in which people volunteer their time and effort to help others?
  2.  If you could pick one way in which to volunteer to help others, what would that be?
  3.  Who do you know who volunteers to help others?

Please share your answers to these questions, and your thoughts about Generosity, with our school community by using the form below.
