Effort, week 1

During our lessons this week, we will start to explore the idea of Effort as determination in action.  Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“If you’re not going to go all the way, why go at all?” — Joe Namath (professional football player)

Effort:  perseverance and dedication with a give-it-your-all attitude — our determination in action.

When we set a goal for ourselves, we should make our best effort to accomplish that goal.  whether it is earning our Black Belt, learning how to play a musical instrument, or learning a new language, we should make our best effort.  Working to the best of our ability results in a better outcome, and gives us the pride of a job well done.  It also means that we learn new things from our efforts, and become stronger and more capable people.  Making our best effort doesn’t mean that we have to be perfect — it means we keep trying to improve.

Discussion Questions:

  1.  What is a goal you have set for yourself that will take effort?
  2.   What are some of the things you will have to do to accomplish this goal?
  3.   Do you have to do all of these at once?

Please share your answers to these questions, and your thoughts about Effort, with our school community by using the form below.
