Courtesy, Part One

Good Afternoon,

Our in-class discussion topic for the week of March 3 will be Courtesy. We will be discussing Courtesy in our lessons during the month of March. Our in-class discussion lesson this week will consider the basic meaning of Courtesy. Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“All doors open to courtesy” — Thomas Fuller (Historian)

Courtesy — Having gracious, polite or considerate behavior toward others.

As a martial artist, you are learning many things, including respect, integrity, and courtesy. Even when martial artists spar together, they are courteous to one another. We show courtesy when we bow to our instructors or our fellow students, when we answer our instructors “Yes, Sir” or “Yes, Ma’am” when they speak to us, and when we thank someone for bringing us to class.

Discussion Questions:

1) What is courtesy?

2) How do you use courtesy in our karate school?

3) What are some ways to be courteous at home or in school?

Please use the supplementary material in the March 2014 Parent Letter, as well as the March Kid Kick and Fastbreaks newsletter to help you discuss Courtesy with your family at home.
