Commitment, week 2

During our lessons together this week, we will talk about how Commitment enables us to transform a promise into a reality.  Our in-class discussion lesson for this week follows below:

“Commitment is what transforms a promise into a reality.” — Abraham Lincoln (16th President of the United States)

Last week, we talked about how a commitment is a promise that we make to ourselves.  Transforming that promise into a reality means that we are determined to make it so.  We will take our time, energy, thoughts, creativity, and effort to accomplish what we have set out to do.  One example of commitment are the Promotion Exams we are doing this week.  We’ve worked together every week for 12 weeks now to prepare for these exams, so that you will be able to do your very best.

Discussion Questions:

  1.  Do you think it is important to keep our promises?
  2.  Is doing your best with all your karate skills during your Promotion Exam a commitment — a promise you make to yourself?
  3.  Do you think that the Tenets of Taekwondo are a kind of commitment?

Please share your answers to these questions, and your thoughts about Commitment, with our school community by using the form below.
